Animal Science Training Program Coordination Board

Overview

The Program Coordination Board for the Animal Science Program serves as the academic coordination body of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Nong Lam University – Ho Chi Minh City. It brings together the Department of Animal Breeding, Department of Specialized Animal Husbandry, and Department of Animal Nutrition to coordinate and ensure curriculum coherence across genetics and breeding, nutrition, production systems, herd management, and animal product quality.

The Board aims to develop highly competent graduates with strong scientific knowledge, practical skills, and innovative thinking to meet the demands of efficient, safe, sustainable, and climate-resilient animal production.

Vision

To become an advanced, practice-oriented, and internationally integrated coordination hub for Animal Science education, developing professionals capable of optimizing productivity, quality, efficiency, and sustainability in modern animal production.

Development Strategies

  • Integrate breeding and genetics, nutrition, production technologies, and herd management throughout the curriculum.
  • Strengthen competency-based and practice-oriented education, closely connected with farms, enterprises, and real-world production systems.
  • Regularly review and update the curriculum in response to scientific advances, market demands, and emerging trends in animal production.
  • Promote applied research, innovation, and technology transfer for livestock production.
  • Expand partnerships with industry, production enterprises, research institutions, and domestic and international universities.
  • Promote resource-efficient, low-emission, biosecure, animal-welfare-oriented, and climate-resilient animal production.

Research Directions

The Board promotes interdisciplinary research based on the complementary strengths of the three academic units:

  1. Animal Genetics, Breeding and Selection: genetic resource evaluation, selection and genetic improvement; application of biotechnology and genomic data to enhance productivity, quality, and adaptability.
  2. Animal Nutrition and Feed Science: nutrient requirements, feed ingredient evaluation, diet formulation, novel feed resources, and feed efficiency.
  3. Functional Nutrition and Feed Additives: probiotics, enzymes, phytogenic products, mycotoxin binders, and other feed additives to improve animal health, productivity, and production efficiency.
  4. Animal Production and Herd Management: feeding, husbandry, herd management, production systems, and optimization of production conditions.
  5. Animal Productivity and Product Quality: improvement of productivity, meat, egg, and milk quality, and value-added animal products, with emphasis on meat quality and genetic improvement of pigs.
  6. Feed Safety and Mycotoxin Management: feed quality, mycotoxin risks, feed ingredients, and strategies to improve feed safety and reduce adverse effects.
  7. Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Animal Production: resource efficiency, emission reduction, production-cost optimization, and enhancement of animal adaptability under changing environmental conditions.
